Pixton Learning Centre designs science and discovery material for children. One idea per page, rendered so a small child can hold it, colour it, and ask about it — with an adult beside them.
What we publish
Most material made for young children asks them to absorb. We ask them to do. Every page we publish presents a single scientific idea — an atom, an orbit, a pattern — drawn so a child can colour it and then ask a question about it.
This is not a simplification of science. We use the real vocabulary, because a child who can say dinosaur can say molecule. What a young child needs is not easier words. It is a reason to care, and an adult who will sit down beside them.
Design principles
Physical activity anchors abstract ideas in motor memory. A child who has traced the rings of Saturn holds a different relationship to the idea than one who watched it animate.
Every illustration is built from real scientific structure. We reduce complexity, never accuracy. Nothing learned from our books has to be unlearned later.
Each page prompts a question an adult can answer — or, better, one neither of you can. Learning to say let us find out is the outcome we design for.
Divisions
Our early years division develops material for children between two and five — the period researchers call the question phase, when a child is assembling the categories they will use to organise everything that follows. It publishes the Color the Science series.
The Solar System. The Sun, eight planets, the Moon. Teaches scale, distance, and that conditions differ from place to place.
Chemistry. Atoms, molecules, elements, DNA. Establishes that everything — including the child — is assembled from smaller parts.
Mathematics. Shape, pattern, symmetry, quantity. Treats maths as a description of structure, not operations to memorise.
Inside a volume
A child is shown the finished plate in full colour, then given the same subject as clean outlines to colour themselves. The reference is always on hand — so the activity is not guessing, it is reproducing something they have already understood.
